Absolutely! This is a complete beginners course that walks you through step-by-step from zero to having taken your first astrophotography image.
We assume no prior knowledge and explain everything in clear, jargon-free language.
Star trails make the best first step for beginners.
You will learn all you need to understand to get started in astrophotography but you are less impacted by things like:
The time of year
Light pollution
The moon phase
Star trails can be captured at any time of the year, under any moon phase, and you are less required to find dark sky sites.
Therefore you can go through all the steps and end up with an amazing photo and have learned all you need to get started in astrophotography!
You will need a DSLR or mirrorless camera with a lens and a tripod.
If you already own these, what you have will be good enough!
Even the most basic entry-level camera with the kit lens it came with will work perfectly for this course.
If you want to upgrade or don't own this equipment yet, we provide budget-friendly recommendations.
You will have to do your shooting once the sun has gone down, but the beauty of star trails photography is that you can do it from your backyard if you like.
There is no need to go out on your own into the woods at night unless/until you really want to.
This course is designed with minimal post-processing required.
Free and easy ways to touch up your image are covered, but your tutor, Joao, is a self-proclaimed "naturalist" and prefers minimal processing.
You will learn his technique for authentic, natural-looking images.
Just send an email to contact@skiesandscopes.com and we'll get back to you as quick as we can.
